Welcome to our Ark!

Welcome to Noah's first webpage!! Just one of many first's for my little guy :) My name is Melissa (28) and my husband is David (24). On August 30th, 1997 I gave birth to Travis Allen (named after my grandfather) @ 20 weeks due to Incompetent Cervix. He died in utero due to the trauma of a vaginal birth. So, when I found out I was pregnant with Noah I was naturally very afraid. At 15 weeks A Shirodka cerclage (a pursestring stitch around the cervix underneath the skin of the cervix to help cinch it together) was placed to help me to carry to term. Though Noah seemed to have plans of his own ;)

Noah was "scheduled" to enter this world November 4th, 2002. He arrived October 5,2002. He was born at St.Joseph Regional Health Center His page at the hosptial website October the 5th I was supposed to go to my 8 HOUR birth class. Having a tiny bit of spotting early that morning, I decided to go to the L&D to make sure all was well (as to not be worried throughout the day). After arriving at L&D I was hooked to the fetal monitor and we found out that I was having contractions every 3 to 4 minutes. My cervix was checked and I was 80% effaced and the cerclage was pulling on my cervix. They tried to remove the cerclage and were unable to. It was explained to me that to cut the cerclage out I would need an epidural so they could cut through my cervix to get to the cerclage. We were then told that we had 15 minutes to discuss if we wanted to have the cerclage cut out or an emergency c-section could be performed. We discussed it and chose the c-section.

Noah Shane (Noah -Derived from the Hebrew name Noach meaning "rest, comfort". And Shane, his daddy's middle name which means "God is gracious". )was born at 10:58 AM. He weighed 6 pounds and 3 ounces. He was 19.5 inches long. Due to having trouble breathing he was whisked away to the NICU. Intially, he was put on 100% oxygen about 3 hours later he was on 45% oxygen and 8 hours after being born he was breathing on his own. He was unable to feed and was being fed by an IV and was recieving antibiotics through an IV as well. A tube was put in his stomach to pump all the amniotic fluid and mucus out of his little belly. On his fourth day in the NICU, he was finally able to eat from a bottle. He also developed jaundice and had to stay in the hosptial 1 more day after I was discharged to bring his bili count down. I was released Wednesday, October 9th at 9:30 PM and I was able to take him home Friday, October 11th at 9:00 AM. He is our miracle and David and I are so very happy to have him safe and sound with us. We have been truly blessed.

Update - Noah is now 6 months old! It is so hard to believe that so much time has passed. My little boy is really growing up. He is not sitting up yet, but he is trying. He is eating solid foods now and he loves his baby food ;) He has been rolling over for awhile now and is now a pro at it (front to back, back to front) It is hard to keep my little man on a blanket when he is laying on the floor. Everyday he looks more and more like his daddy! I have finally updated the pictures section :)
